"The best waste is not generated."
Cosima Dannoritzer

The piece "Dust under the rug" makes use of the graph, extrapolated to a support greater than conventional, in this case a black screen, to contextualize a series of national landmarks surrounding the Alameda Central. This has the intent to encourage the viewer to reflect on unbridled consumerism, waste mismanagement and that the omission of these phenomena may cause.

Since the beginning of formation and development of the City of Mexico, after the colony, handling solid and liquid waste, has been instrumental in the distribution of the urban area and its services. As a result, it has been relegated to the lowest social class to the east of the city, leaving it that deals with it the debris of a developing society and avoiding eye contact and physical development of the sector with the rest of the members of a community, located south of the City. Over time it became necessary the designation of sites for the deposit of the waste generated by the city. The site chosen, it still exists Lake Texcoco, was thus subjected to a painful and slow drying process that lasted decades, becoming the somewhere in what is now called 'Landfill' or, in the famous' board Xochiaca ', (which in Nahuatl means "Flowers on the water'). The limits of the board have an extension that covers a staggering 600 hectares, divided into six sections, with mountains with an average height of 18 meters and receive 12,000 tons of garbage generated by the city per day. Until the end of 2011 remained active the last phase of the landfill, which is now closed.

The newspaper La Jornada published on Thursday, January 12, 2012, a note that highlighted the abandonment of 8 tons of trash during the early hours of Thursday in the House to Juarez, by stoppage in the first weeks of the year. Image that inspired this project.

The image to be displayed overlay shows the area covered by the last phase of Xochiaca board on the only green area representative of the Historic Center of Mexico City: the Alameda Central.

The graphics support is a black screen of 6 panels 180cm x 80cm. wood, with a fabric in cross ribbons 3 cm. PET recycled, donated by the group Mexico Recovers Valley branch, which will be collected previously washed and cut. Both the PET timber as will be painted with latex paint and black varnished with a Styrofoam based product, dissolved in a mixture of ethyl acetate and acetone. It will work in high contrast low mezzotint technique for projecting light through the material using its translucent quality, as a screen.
